The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart

Chapter 969

Chapter 969

“Alright.”

After Hugh left, Brittany returned to her studio, only to be summoned away by Ysabel for a meeting.

Meanwhile, Hugh settled into the backseat of a sleek black Bentley.

The woman who had just dined with him spoke with deferential poise, “Young Master.”

“Erase all trails. We can’t let anyone trace our whereabouts.”

“There’s been someone snooping around the research institute,” the woman said with a slight frown. “Could it be Ms. Dustin?”

“I’ll persuade her to back off.”

Hugh leaned back against the plush leather seat. “How’s Estelle doing?”

“The Hartman family is being stubborn. She’s living with Mr. Dominic Hartman.”

“Hmph, she’s got nothing but Dominic on her mind. Forget it, let’s go.”

It took Brittany three days to finalize the design draft for Hugh, who was quite pleased with the outcome.

Once she was sure everything was in order, Brittany handed the blueprints over to the factory.

As the end of the month neared, the buzz around Saskia’s wedding intensified.

While the Lynette family was abuzz with activity, the Metzger family remained unusually quiet.

Jonathan had been recuperating for over half a month, and his wounds had significantly healed. He had completely forgotten about Saskia, his attention now solely on Ophelia.

Ophelia, on the other hand, was utterly exasperated by his attention. Mrs. Metzger’s hopes for her to keep Jonathan company only added to her frustration.

With no real way to decline, Ophelia brought her work to the hospital room, settling into a couch to tackle her paperwork. novelbin

Jonathan lay in bed, his eyes brimming with a plaintive look, fixated on Ophelia.

“Ophelia, why won’t you talk to me?”

Ophelia was silent, her attention unyielding from her documents.

Jonathan could sense Ophelia’s annoyance with him, perhaps even finding him bothersome. Whenever he couldn’t see Ophelia, he felt an irritating emptiness; as if he’d lost something vital. Yet, Ophelia didn’t care for him. If it weren’t for Mrs. Metzger’s wishes, she probably wouldn’t stay at the hospital.

Curled up on his bed, Jonathan’s head drooped like a wilted flower.

As Ophelia worked through her paperwork, she finally noticed Jonathan’s unusual silence. Recalling Mrs. Metzger’s request, Ophelia sighed internally and rose to pour him a glass of warm water. “Jonathan, would you like a drink?”

Jonathan looked up, his eyes pitiful. “Ophelia, if you don’t want to stay here with me, I could talk to my mother.”

Seeing his dejected expression, Ophelia felt a surprising twinge of compassion.

She extended her hand. “Drink this.”

Jonathan took the glass, sipping carefully.

This was water Ophelia had given him; he didn’t want to guzzle it down all at once.

Ophelia hadn’t realized the extent of Jonathan’s infatuation. Before, it was directed at Saskia, now it seemed to be at her.

She massaged her temples. “I’m not avoiding you. I’m just really busy.”

“Do you like me, then?” Jonathan’s gaze was intense.

Ophelia instinctively shook her head, but she was caught by the idea of their engagement and his hopeful eyes, leaving her at a loss for words.

After a long pause, she finally said, “Yes, I like you.”

Jonathan’s face lit up, like a child receiving a desired toy, and he reached out, grabbing Ophelia’s sleeve. “Ophelia, then you have to stay with me forever.”

Ophelia frowned. “Are you sure you want to marry me?”

He might be mistaking her for Saskia now, and once they were married, their families would never allow a divorce. Then Jonathan would have no way out.

Thinking she was unwilling, Jonathan panicked. “Ophelia, but you said you liked me. Don’t you want to marry me?”

Ophelia replied candidly, “Jonathan, the truth is, the person you like isn’t me. You’ve simply forgotten her. If you regain your memories after we’re married, I won’t agree to a divorce.”

It wasn’t Ophelia who he liked? Then who was it?

Jonathan furrowed his brow, puzzled. “But I feel like you’re the best girl in the world. How could I have not liked you before? And if there really is someone else I liked, why hasn’t she come to see me during all this time I’ve been hospitalized? Is she no longer around?”

“No, she’s still here.”

And about to get married.

“Then she clearly doesn’t love me,” Jonathan stated with conviction. “If she really did, how could she stay away for so long?”

Ophelia remained silent.

Perhaps it was for the best that he was clueless, at least now he would realize Saskia never truly cared for him.
